           Theastonishmentoftheladieswasjustwhathewished; thatofMrs.Bennetperhapssurpassingtherest; though,whenthefirsttumultofjoywasover,shebegantodeclarethatitwaswhatshehadexpectedallthewhile.

           "Now,Kitty,youmaycoughasmuchasyouchoose,"saidMr.Bennet;and,ashespoke,helefttheroom,fatiguedwiththerapturesofhiswife. 

           "Whatanexcellentfatheryouhave,girls!"saidshe,whenthedoorwasshut. "Idonotknowhowyouwillevermakehimamendsforhiskindness;orme,either,forthatmatter. Atourtimeoflifeitisnotsopleasant,Icantellyou,tobemakingnewacquaintanceseveryday;butforyoursakes,wewoulddoanything. Lydia,mylove,thoughyouaretheyoungest,IdaresayMr.Bingleywilldancewithyouatthenextball." 

           "Oh!"saidLydiastoutly,"Iamnotafraid;forthoughIamtheyoungest,I’mthetallest." 

           TherestoftheeveningwasspentinconjecturinghowsoonhewouldreturnMr.Bennet’svisit,anddeterminingwhentheyshouldaskhimtodinner.
