           AsithappenedthatElizabethhadmuchrathernot,sheendeavouredinheranswertoputanendtoeveryentreatyandexpectationofthekind. Suchrelief,however,asitwasinherpowertoafford,bythepracticeofwhatmightbecalledeconomyinherownprivateexpences,shefrequentlysentthem. Ithadalwaysbeenevidenttoherthatsuchanincomeastheirs,underthedirectionoftwopersonssoextravagantintheirwants,andheedlessofthefuture,mustbeveryinsufficienttotheirsupport;andwhenevertheychangedtheirquarters,eitherJaneorherselfweresureofbeingappliedtoforsomelittleassistancetowardsdischargingtheirbills. Theirmannerofliving,evenwhentherestorationofpeacedismissedthemtoahome,wasunsettledintheextreme. Theywerealwaysmovingfromplacetoplaceinquestofacheapsituation,andalwaysspendingmorethantheyought. Hisaffectionforhersoonsunkintoindifference; her’slastedalittlelonger; andinspiteofheryouthandhermanners,sheretainedalltheclaimstoreputationwhichhermarriagehadgivenher. 

           ThoughDarcycouldneverreceivehimatPemberley,yet,forElizabeth’ssake,heassistedhimfurtherinhisprofession. Lydiawasoccasionallyavisitorthere,whenherhusbandwasgonetoenjoyhimselfinLondonorBath; andwiththeBingleystheybothofthemfrequentlystaidsolong,thatevenBingley’sgoodhumourwasovercome,andheproceededsofarastotalkofgivingthemahinttobegone. 

           MissBingleywasverydeeplymortifiedbyDarcy’smarriage;butasshethoughtitadvisabletoretaintherightofvisitingatPemberley,shedroptallherresentment; wasfonderthaneverofGeorgiana,almostasattentivetoDarcyasheretofore,andpaidoffeveryarrearofcivilitytoElizabeth. 

           PemberleywasnowGeorgiana’shome;andtheattachmentofthesisterswasexactlywhatDarcyhadhopedtosee.
