           Theywalkedon,withoutknowinginwhatdirection. Therewastoomuchtobethought,andfelt,andsaid,forattentiontoanyotherobjects. Shesoonlearntthattheywereindebtedfortheirpresentgoodunderstandingtotheeffortsofhisaunt,whodidcallonhiminherreturnthroughLondon,andthererelateherjourneytoLongbourn,itsmotive,andthesubstanceofherconversationwithElizabeth; dwellingemphaticallyoneveryexpressionofthelatterwhich,inherladyship’sapprehension,peculiarlydenotedherperversenessandassurance; inthebeliefthatsucharelationmustassistherendeavourstoobtainthatpromisefromhernephewwhichshehadrefusedtogive. But,unluckilyforherladyship,itseffecthadbeenexactlycontrariwise.

           "Whatdidyousayofme,thatIdidnotdeserve? For,thoughyouraccusationswereill-founded,formedonmistakenpremises,mybehaviourtoyouatthetimehadmeritedtheseverestreproof. Itwasunpardonable. Icannotthinkofitwithoutabhorrence." 

           "Wewillnotquarrelforthegreatershareofblameannexedtothatevening,"saidElizabeth. "Theconductofneither,ifstrictlyexamined,willbeirreproachable; butsincethen,wehaveboth,Ihope,improvedincivility."
