           Nancyhadvanished.Therehewas,marchingupanddowntheterraceinarage.Oneseemedtoheardoorsslammingandvoicescallingalloverthehouse.NowNancyburstin,andasked,lookingroundtheroom,inaqueerhalfdazed,halfdesperateway,"WhatdoesonesendtotheLighthouse?"asifshewereforcingherselftodowhatshedespairedofeverbeingabletodo.
