Meggiefollowedthedwindlingformsofherbrothersatarun.

Bobalwayswalkedtoschoolalongthetopoftheright-handfences,balancinghisleathersatchelonhisheadinsteadofwearingithaversackstyle.Theleft-handfencebelongedtoJack,whichpermittedthethreeyoungerClearysdomainoftheroaditself.Atthetopofthelong,steephilltheyhadtoclimbfromthesmithyhollowtowheretheRobertsonroadjoinedtheWahineroad,theypausedforamoment,panting,thefivebrightheadshaloedagainstapuffilycloudedsky.Thiswasthebestpart,goingdownthehill;theylinkedhandsandgallopedonthegrassyvergeuntilitvanishedinatangleofflowers,wishingtheyhadthetimetosneakunderMr.Chapman’sfenceandrollallthewaydownlikeboulders.
