           Aslanstoodinthecentreofacrowdofcreatureswhohadgroupedthemselvesroundhimintheshapeofahalf-moon.TherewereTree-WomenthereandWell-Women(DryadsandNaiadsastheyusedtobecalledinourworld)whohadstringedinstruments;itwastheywhohadmadethemusic.Therewerefourgreatcentaurs.ThehorsepartofthemwaslikehugeEnglishfarmhorses,andthemanpartwaslikesternbutbeautifulgiants.Therewasalsoaunicorn,andabullwiththeheadofaman,andapelican,andaneagle,andagreatDog.AndnexttoAslanstoodtwoleopardsofwhomonecarriedhiscrownandtheotherhisstandard.

           ButasforAslanhimself,theBeaversandthechildrendidn’tknowwhattodoorsaywhentheysawhim.PeoplewhohavenotbeeninNarniasometimesthinkthatathingcannotbegoodandterribleatthesametime.Ifthechildrenhadeverthoughtso,theywerecuredofitnow.ForwhentheytriedtolookatAslan’sfacetheyjustcaughtaglimpseofthegoldenmaneandthegreat,royal,solemn,overwhelmingeyes;andthentheyfoundtheycouldn’tlookathimandwentalltrembly.
