Greatwastheirsurprisewhenalittlelater,theyheardMrBeaver’svoicecallingtothemfromjustoutsidethecave.
"It’sallright,"hewasshouting."Comeout,MrsBeaver.Comeout,SonsandDaughtersofAdam.It’sallright!Itisn’tHer!"Thiswasbadgrammarofcourse,butthatishowbeaverstalkwhentheyareexcited;Imean,inNarnia-inourworldtheyusuallydon’ttalkatall.
SoMrsBeaverandthechildrencamebundlingoutofthecave,allblinkinginthedaylight,andwithearthalloverthem,andlookingveryfrowstyandunbrushedanduncombedandwiththesleepintheireyes.
"Comeon!"criedMrBeaver,whowasalmostdancingwithdelight."Comeandsee!ThisisanastyknockfortheWitch!Itlooksasifherpowerisalreadycrumbling."
"Whatdoyoumean,MrBeaver?"pantedPeterastheyallscrambledupthesteepbankofthevalleytogether.
"Didn’tItellyou,"answeredMrBeaver,"thatshe’dmadeitalwayswinterandneverChristmas?Didn’tItellyou?Well,justcomeandsee!"
Andthentheywereallatthetopanddidsee.
Itwasasledge,anditwasreindeerwithbellsontheirharness.ButtheywerefarbiggerthantheWitch’sreindeer,andtheywerenotwhitebutbrown.Andonthesledgesatapersonwhomeveryoneknewthemomenttheyseteyesonhim.
