"Oh,please,please,please,dohurry!"saidthethreechildren.AndsoatlasttheyallgotoutsideandMrBeaverlockedthedoor("It’lldelayherabit,"hesaid)andtheysetoff,allcarryingtheirloadsovertheirshoulders.
Thesnowhadstoppedandthemoonhadcomeoutwhentheybegantheirjourney.Theywentinsinglefile-firstMrBeaver,thenLucy,thenPeter,thenSusan,andMrsBeaverlastofall.MrBeaverledthemacrossthedamandontotherightbankoftheriverandthenalongaveryroughsortofpathamongthetreesrightdownbytheriver-bank.
