           Theflames,however,subsided,eitherbecausethesupplyhadexhausteditself,orbecauseithadbeenpileduptoomuch.Love,littlebylittle,wasquelledbyabsence;regretstifledbeneathhabit;andthisincendiarylightthathadempurpledherpaleskywasoverspreadandfadedbydegrees.
