           Elizabethaskedquestionsinvain; Mariawouldtellhernothingmore,anddowntheyranintothedining-room,whichfrontedthelane,inquestofthiswonder; Itwastwoladiesstoppinginalowphaetonatthegardengate. 

           "Andisthisall?"criedElizabeth. "Iexpectedatleastthatthepigsweregotintothegarden,andhereisnothingbutLadyCatherineandherdaughter."
