           Whilethefamilywereinthisconfusion,CharlotteLucascametospendthedaywiththem. ShewasmetinthevestibulebyLydia,who,flyingtoher,criedinahalfwhisper, "Iamgladyouarecome,forthereissuchfunhere! Whatdoyouthinkhashappenedthismorning? Mr.CollinshasmadeanoffertoLizzy,andshewillnothavehim." 

           Charlottehardlyhadtimetoanswer,beforetheywerejoinedbyKitty,whocametotellthesamenews; andnosoonerhadtheyenteredthebreakfast-room,whereMrs.Bennetwasalone,thanshelikewisebeganonthesubject,callingonMissLucasforhercompassion,andentreatinghertopersuadeherfriendLizzytocomplywiththewishesofallherfamily. "Praydo,mydearMissLucas,"sheaddedinamelancholytone,"fornobodyisonmyside,nobodytakespartwithme. Iamcruellyused,nobodyfeelsformypoornerves." 

           Charlotte’sreplywassparedbytheentranceofJaneandElizabeth. 

           "Aye,thereshecomes,"continuedMrs.Bennet,"lookingasunconcernedasmaybe,andcaringnomoreforusthanifwewereatYork,providedshecanhaveherownway.
