           "Ihavebeenmosthighlygratifiedindeed,mydearsir. Suchverysuperiordancingisnotoftenseen. Itisevidentthatyoubelongtothefirstcircles. Allowmetosay,however,thatyourfairpartnerdoesnotdisgraceyou,andthatImusthopetohavethispleasureoftenrepeated,especiallywhenacertaindesirableevent,mydearEliza(glancingathersisterandBingley)shalltakeplace. Whatcongratulationswillthenflowin!IappealtoMr.Darcy:butletmenotinterruptyou,sir. Youwillnotthankmefordetainingyoufromthebewitchingconverseofthatyounglady,whosebrighteyesarealsoupbraidingme." 

           ThelatterpartofthisaddresswasscarcelyheardbyDarcy; butSirWilliam’sallusiontohisfriendseemedtostrikehimforcibly,andhiseyesweredirectedwithaveryseriousexpressiontowardsBingleyandJane,whoweredancingtogether. Recoveringhimself,however,shortly,heturnedtohispartner,andsaid, "SirWilliam’sinterruptionhasmademeforgetwhatweweretalkingof." 

           "Idonotthinkwewerespeakingatall. SirWilliamcouldnothaveinterruptedtwopeopleintheroomwhohadlesstosayforthemselves. Wehavetriedtwoorthreesubjectsalreadywithoutsuccess,andwhatwearetotalkofnextIcannotimagine." 

           "Whatthinkyouofbooks?"saidhe,smiling. 

           "Booksoh!no.Iamsureweneverreadthesame,ornotwiththesamefeelings." 

           "Iamsorryyouthinkso;butifthatbethecase,therecanatleastbenowantofsubject. Wemaycompareourdifferentopinions." 

           "NoIcannottalkofbooksinaball-room;myheadisalwaysfullofsomethingelse."
