           Hetookheratherword,andsathimselfdowntothewheel,andwhistledandsang:

           ‘Roundabout,roundabout,

           Loandbehold!

           Reelaway,reelaway,

           Strawintogold!’

           Androundaboutthewheelwentmerrily;theworkwasquicklydone,andthestrawwasallspunintogold.

           Whenthekingcameandsawthis,hewasgreatlyastonishedandpleased;buthisheartgrewstillmoregreedyofgain,andheshutupthepoormiller’sdaughteragainwithafreshtask.Thensheknewnotwhattodo,andsatdownoncemoretoweep;butthedwarfsoonopenedthedoor,andsaid,‘Whatwillyougivemetodoyourtask?’‘Theringonmyfinger,’saidshe.Soherlittlefriendtookthering,andbegantoworkatthewheelagain,andwhistledandsang:

           ‘Roundabout,roundabout,

           Loandbehold!

           Reelaway,reelaway,

           Strawintogold!’

           till,longbeforemorning,allwasdoneagain.

           Thekingwasgreatlydelightedtoseeallthisglitteringtreasure;butstillhehadnotenough:sohetookthemiller’sdaughtertoayetlargerheap,andsaid,‘Allthismustbespuntonight;andifitis,youshallbemyqueen.’Assoonasshewasalonethatdwarfcamein,andsaid,‘Whatwillyougivemetospingoldforyouthisthirdtime?’‘Ihavenothingleft,’saidshe.‘Thensayyouwillgiveme,’saidthelittleman,‘thefirstlittlechildthatyoumayhavewhenyouarequeen.’‘Thatmayneverbe,’thoughtthemiller’sdaughter:andassheknewnootherwaytogethertaskdone,shesaidshewoulddowhatheasked.Roundwentthewheelagaintotheoldsong,andthemanikinoncemorespuntheheapintogold.
