Andneverwasthereacitymorefitandpleasantforsuchfestivals.Forononesideitwaswashedbyanobleriver,sothatthekingsandprincesfromthecountriesbeyondseamightconvenientlysailuptoit;andontheotherside,thebeautyofthegrovesandmeadows,andthestatelinessandmagnificenceoftheroyalpalaces,withloftygildedroofs,madeitevenrivalthegrandeurofRome.Itwasfamousalsofortwogreatandnoblechurches,whereofonewasbuiltinhonourofthemartyrJulius,andadornedwithachoirofvirginswhohaddevotedthemselveswhollytotheserviceofGod;andtheother,foundedinmemoryofSt.Aaron,hiscompanion,maintainedaconventofcanons,andwasthethirdmetropolitanchurchofBritain.
