“Benotafraid,”saidMerlin;“heismorewholeandsoundthanthouart,andisbutinasleep,wherefrominthreehours’timehewillawake.Itoldtheewhataknighthewas,andhownearthouwasttodeath.Therelivethnotabetterknightthanheinalltheworld,andhereafterheshalldotheegoodservice.HisnameisKingPellinore,andheshallhavetwosons,whoshallbepassingvaliantmen,and,saveoneanother,shallhavenoequalinprowessandinpurityoflife.TheoneshallbenamedPercival,andtheotherLamorackeofWales.”
SotheyrodeontoCaerleon,andalltheknightsgrievedgreatlywhentheyheardofthisadventure,thatthekingwouldjeopardisehispersonthusalone.Yetcouldtheynothidetheirjoyatservingundersuchanoblechief,whoadventuredhisownlifeasmuchasdidthepoorestknightamongthemall.
