AtthattimeKingArthurhadamarvellousdream,whichgavehimgreatdisquietnessofheart.Hedreamedthatthewholelandwasfullofmanyfierygriffinsandserpents,whichburntandslewthepeopleeverywhere;andthenthathehimselffoughtwiththem,andthattheydidhimmightyinjuries,andwoundedhimnightodeath,butthatatlastheovercameandslewthemall.Whenhewoke,hesatingreatheavinessofspiritandpensiveness,thinkingwhatthisdreammightsignify,butby-and-by,whenhecouldbynomeanssatisfyhimselfwhatitmightmean,toridhimselfofallhisthoughtsofit,hemadereadywithagreatcompanytorideouthunting.
Assoonashewasintheforest,thekingsawagreathartbeforehim,andspurredhishorse,androdelongeagerlyafterit,andchaseduntilhishorselostbreathandfelldowndeadfromunderhim.Then,seeingthehartescapedandhishorsedead,hesatdownbyafountain,andfellintodeepthoughtagain.
