ButSirLionelwouldnothear,andpreparedtofightandmountedhishorseandcamebeforehim,crying,“SirBors,keeptheefromme,forIshalldototheeasafelonandatraitor;therefore,startuponthyhorse,forifthouwiltnot,Iwillrunupontheeasthoustandest.”
ButforallhiswordsSirBorswouldnotdefendhimselfagainsthisbrother.AndanonthefiendstirredupSirLioneltosuchrage,thatherushedoverhimandoverthrewhimwithhishorse’shoofs,sothathelayswooningontheground.Thenwouldhehaverentoffhishelmandslainhim,butthehermitofthatplaceranout,andprayedhimtoforbear,andshieldedSirBorswithhisbody.
ThenSirLionelcriedout,“Now,Godsohelpme,sirpriest,butIshallslaytheeelsethoudepart,andhimtooafterthee.”
AndwhenthegoodmanutterlyrefusedtoleaveSirBors,hesmotehimontheheaduntilhedied,andthenhetookhisbrotherbythehelmandunlacedit,tohavestrickenoffhishead,andsohewouldhavedone,butsuddenlywaspulledoffbackwardsbyaknightoftheRoundTable,who,bythewillofHeaven,waspassingbythatplace—SirColgrevancebyname.
“SirLionel,”hecried,“willyeslayyourbrother,oneofthebestknightsofalltheworld?Thatoughtnomantosuffer.”
“Why,”saidSirLionel,“willyehindermeandmeddleinthisstrife?beware,lestIshallslayboththeeandhim.”
AndwhenSirColgrevancerefusedtoletthembe,SirLioneldefiedhim,andgavehimagreatstrokethroughthehelmet,whereatSirColgrevancedrewhissword,andsmoteagainrightmanfully.
