Sohedepartedweeping,andcursedthedayofhisbirth,forthewordswentintohisheart,andheknewwhereforehewasthusdrivenforth.Thenhewenttoseekhisarmsandhorse,butcouldnotfindthem;andthenhecalledhimselfthewretchedestandmostunhappyofallknights,andsaid,“Mysinhathbroughtmeuntogreatdishonour:forwhenIsoughtearthlyhonours,Iachievedthemever;butnowItakeuponmeholythings,myguiltdothhinderme,andshamethme;thereforehadInopowertostirorspeakwhentheholybloodappearedbeforeme.”
Sothushesorrowedtillitwasday,andheheardthebirdssing;thenwashesomewhatcomforted,anddepartingfromthecrossonfoot,hecameintoawildforest,andtoahighmountain,andtherehefoundahermitage;and,kneelingbeforethehermitdownuponbothhisknees,hecriedformercyforhiswickedworks,andprayedhimtohearhisconfession.
