Inafewminutesafterrodeforthfuriouslyfromthegatewaysofthecastlesevenknights,allbrothers,andcryingout,“Knight,keepthee,”boredownallatonceuponSirGalahad.Butthrustingforthhisspear,hesmotetheforemosttotheearth,sothathisneckwasalmostbroken,andwardedwithhisshieldthespearsofalltheothers,whicheveryonebrakeofffromit,andshiveredintopieces.Thenhedrewouthissword,andsetuponthemhardandfiercely,andbyhiswondrousforcedravethembeforehim,andchasedthemtothecastlegate,andthereheslewthem.
Atthatcameouttohimanancientman,inpriest’svestments,saying,“Behold,sir,here,thekeysofthiscastle.”
Thenheunlockedthegates,andfoundwithinamultitudeofpeople,whocriedout,“Sirknight,yebewelcome,forlonghavewewaitedthydeliverance,”andtoldhimthatthesevenfelonshehadslainhadlongenslavedthepeopleroundabout,andkilledallknightswhopassedthatway,becausethemaidenwhomtheyhadrobbedofthecastlehadforetoldthatbyoneknighttheyshouldthemselvesbeoverthrown.
“Whereisthemaiden?”askedSirGalahad.
