ThenSirTristramandSirDinadandeparted,androdeintoaforest,andastheyrodeadamselmetthem,whoforSirLancelot’ssakewasseekinganynobleknightstorescuehim.ForQueenMorganleFay,whohatedhim,hadorderedthirtymen-at-armstolieinambushforhimashepassed,withtheintenttokillhim.Sothedamselprayedthemtorescuehim.

“Forshame,”repliedSirTristram,“dobutyourpart.”
“ThatwillInot,”saidhe;“wherefore,Iprayye,lendmeyourshield,foritisofCornwall,andbecausemenofthatcountryaredeemedcowards,yearebutlittletroubledasyeridewithknightstojoustwith.
