AndwhenatthefeastArthurstillagainaloneprevailedtomovethesword,thepeopleallwithoneaccordcriedout,“LongliveKingArthur!wewillhavenomoredelay,noranyotherking,forsoitisGod’swill;andwewillslaywhosoresistethHimandArthur;”andwherewithaltheykneeleddownallatonce,andcriedforArthur’sgraceandpardonthattheyhadsolongdelayedhimfromhiscrown.Thenhefullsweetlyandmajesticallypardonedthem;andtakinginhishandthesword,heofferedituponthehighaltarofthechurch.
Anonwashesolemnlyknightedwithgreatpompbythemostfamousknighttherepresent,andthecrownwasplaceduponhishead;and,havingtakenoathtoallthepeople,lordsandcommons,tobetruekinganddealinjusticeonlyuntohislife’send,hereceivedhomageandservicefromallthebaronswhoheldlandsandcastlesfromthecrown.ThenhemadeSirKey,HighStewardofEngland,andSirBadewaineofBritain,Constable,andSirUlfius,Chamberlain:andafterthis,withallhiscourtandagreatretinueofknightsandarmedmen,hejourneyedintoWales,andwascrownedagainintheoldcityofCaerleon-upon-Usk.
Meanwhilethoseknightsandbaronswhohadsolongdelayedhimfromthecrown,mettogetherandwentuptothecoronationfeastatCaerleon,asiftodohimhomage;andtheretheyateanddranksuchthingsasweresetbeforethemattheroyalbanquet,sittingwiththeothersinthegreathall.
