ThelordofthisstrongcastleisSirDamas,andisthefalsestandmosttraitorousknightthatliveth;andhehathayoungerbrother,agoodandnobleknight,whosenameisOutzlake.ThistraitorDamas,althoughpassingrich,willgivehisbrothernothingofhiswealth,andsavewhatOutzlakekeepethtohimselfbyforce,hehathnoshareoftheinheritance.Heowneth,nevertheless,onefairrichmanor,whereuponheliveth,lovedofallmenfarandnear.ButDamasisasaltogetherhatedashisbrotherisbeloved,forheismercilessandcowardly:andnowformanyyearstherehathbeenwarbetweenthesebrothers,andSirOutzlakeevermoredefiethDamastocomeforthandfightwithhim,bodytobody,fortheinheritance;andifhebetoocowardly,tofindsomechampionknightthatwillfightforhim.AndDamashathagreedtofindsomechampion,butneveryethathfoundaknighttotakehisevilcauseinhand,orwagerbattleforhim.Sowithastrongbandofmen-at-armshelietheverinambush,andtakethcaptiveeverypassingknightwhomayunwarilygonear,andbringethhimintothiscastle,anddesirethhimeithertofightSirOutzlake,ortolieforevermoreindurance.Andthushathhedealtwithallofus,forweallscornedtotakeupsuchacauseforsuchafalsefoulknight—butratheronebyonecamehere,wheremanyagoodknighthathdiedofhungeranddisease.Butifoneofuswouldfight,SirDamaswoulddeliveralltherest.
