           Onanotheroccasionafterdinner,atthemessoftheFlyingSchoolonSalisburyPlain,hestartedadebateastowhatwillbethemostpermanentdangerwhichairmenwillhavetoencounter.Havinglistenedtosuccessiveopinionsastoair-pockets,faultyconstruction,andover-banking,heendedbyshrugginghisshouldersandrefusingtoputforwardhisownviews,thoughhegavetheimpressionthattheydifferedfromanyadvancedbyhiscompanions.

           Itisworthremarkingthatafterhisowncompletedisappearanceitwasfoundthathisprivateaffairswerearrangedwithaprecisionwhichmayshowthathehadastrongpremonitionofdisaster.WiththeseessentialexplanationsIwillnowgivethenarrativeexactlyasitstands,beginningatpagethreeoftheblood-soakednote-book:
