Iftheunfortunateaviator’stheoryiscorrectthatthisair-jungle,ashecalledit,existedonlyoverthesouth-westofEngland,thenitwouldseemthathehadfledfromitatthefullspeedofhismonoplane,buthadbeenovertakenanddevouredbythesehorriblecreaturesatsomespotintheouteratmosphereabovetheplacewherethegrimrelicswerefound.Thepictureofthatmonoplaneskimmingdownthesky,withthenamelessterrorsflyingasswiftlybeneathitandcuttingitoffalwaysfromtheearthwhiletheygraduallyclosedinupontheirvictim,isoneuponwhichamanwhovaluedhissanitywouldprefernottodwell.Therearemany,asIamaware,whostilljeeratthefactswhichIhaveheresetdown,buteventheymustadmitthatJoyce-Armstronghasdisappeared,andIwouldcommendtothemhisownwords:"Thisnote-bookmayexplainwhatIamtryingtodo,andhowIlostmylifeindoingit.Butnodrivelaboutaccidentsormysteries,ifYOUplease."
