Afterhalfanhour,thesunshoneagain,andthegrocer’sautomobileroundedGatsby’sdrivewiththerawmaterialforhisservants’dinner—Ifeltsurehewouldn’teataspoonful.Amaidbeganopeningtheupperwindowsofhishouse,appearedmomentarilyineach,and,leaningfromalargecentralbay,spatmeditativelyintothegarden.ItwastimeIwentback.Whiletheraincontinuedithadseemedlikethemurmuroftheirvoices,risingandswellingalittlenowandthenwithgustsofemotion.ButinthenewsilenceIfeltthatsilencehadfallenwithinthehousetoo.
