Whentheymetagain,twodayslater,itwasGatsbywhowasbreathless,whowas,somehow,betrayed.Herporchwasbrightwiththeboughtluxuryofstar-shine;thewickerofthesetteesqueakedfashionablyassheturnedtowardhimandhekissedhercuriousandlovelymouth.Shehadcaughtacold,anditmadehervoicehuskierandmorecharmingthanever,andGatsbywasoverwhelminglyawareoftheyouthandmysterythatwealthimprisonsandpreserves,ofthefreshnessofmanyclothes,andofDaisy,gleaminglikesilver,safeandproudabovethehotstrugglesofthepoor.
