The17thCompanyofthe3rdBattalion,12thRegiment,301stArmoredInfantryDivisionwascannonfodder.Ifthefrontalassaultsucceeded,theMimicsfleeingthesiegewouldwashoveruslikeatorrentofwatersurgingthroughadrygully.Ifitfailed,we’dbealoneplatooninthemiddleofaseaofhostiles.Eitherwayouroddsofsurvivalwereslim.Theplatooncommanderknewit,andSergeantFerrellknewit.
