Atitsheadthererodeatallandevilshape,mounteduponablackhorse,ifhorseitwas;foritwashugeandhideous,anditsfacewasafrightfulmask,morelikeaskullthanalivinghead,andinthesocketsofitseyesandinitsnostrilsthereburnedaflame.Theriderwasrobedallinblack,andblackwashisloftyhelm;yetthiswasnoRingwraithbutalivingman.TheLieutenantoftheTowerofBarad-dûrhewas,andhisnameisrememberedinnotale;forhehimselfhadforgottenit,andhesaid:‘IamtheMouthofSauron.’
