           ForamomentthethoughtflittedthroughMerry’smind:‘WhereisGandalf?Ishenothere?CouldhenothavesavedthekingandÉowyn?’ButthereuponÉomerrodeupinhaste,andwithhimcametheknightsofthehouseholdthatstilllivedandhadnowmasteredtheirhorses.Theylookedinwonderatthecarcaseofthefellbeastthatlaythere:andtheirsteedswouldnotgonear.ButÉomerleapedfromthesaddle,andgriefanddismayfelluponhimashecametotheking’ssideandstoodthereinsilence.
