ButjustatpresentSmithwassimplyenjoyinghimselfwithalightheartednesshehadnotexperiencedinmanyyears.HehadwonanewwaterbrotherinJubal,hehadacquiredmanynewfriends,hewasenjoyingdelightfulnewexperiencesinsuchkaleidoscopicquantitythathehadnotimetogrokthem;hecouldonlyfilethemawaytoberelivedatleisure.
HisbrotherJubalhadassuredhimthatbewouldgrokthisstrangeandbeautifulplacemorequicklyifhewouldlearntoread,sohehadtakenafulldayofftolearntoreadreallywellandquickly,withJillpointingtowordsandpronouncingthemforhim.
