           ButtheQueen,believingthatshehadeatenSnow-white’sheart,couldnotbutthinkthatshewasagainthefirstandmostbeautifulofall;andshewenttoherlooking-glassandsaid 

           "Looking-glass,Looking-glass,onthewall,Whointhislandisthefairestofall?" 

           andtheglassanswered 

           "Oh,Queen,thouartfairestofallIsee,Butoverthehills,wherethesevendwarfsdwell,Snow-whiteisstillaliveandwell, 

           Andnoneissofairasshe." 

           Thenshewasastounded,forsheknewthatthelooking-glassneverspokefalsely,andsheknewthatthehuntsmanhadbetrayedher,andthatlittleSnow-whitewasstillalive. 

           Andsoshethoughtandthoughtagainhowshemightkillher,forsolongasshewasnotthefairestinthewholeland,envyletherhavenorest. Andwhenshehadatlastthoughtofsomethingtodo,shepaintedherface,anddressedherselflikeanoldpedler-woman,andnoonecouldhaveknownher.
