           Thesharkwasnotanaccident. Hehadcomeupfromdeepdowninthewaterasthedarkcloudofbloodhadsettledanddispersedinthemiledeepsea. Hehadcomeupsofastandabsolutelywithoutcautionthathebrokethesurfaceofthebluewaterandwasinthesun. Thenhefellbackintotheseaandpickedupthescent andstartedswimmingonthecoursetheskiffandthefishhadtaken. 

           Sometimeshelostthescent. Buthewouldpickitupagain,orhavejustatraceofit,andheswamfastandhardonthecourse. HewasaverybigMakoshark builttoswimasfastasthefastestfishinthesea andeverythingabouthimwasbeautifulexcepthisjaws. 

           Hisbackwasasblueasaswordfish’sandhisbellywassilverandhishidewassmoothandhandsome. Hewasbuiltasaswordfishexceptforhishugejawswhichweretightshutnow asheswamfast,justunderthesurfacewithhishighdorsalfinknifingthroughthewaterwithoutwavering. Insidethecloseddoublelipofhisjawsallofhiseightrowsofteethwereslantedinwards. Theywerenottheordinarypyramid-shapedteethofmostsharks. Theywereshapedlikeaman’sfingerswhentheyarecrispedlikeclaws.
