Iwaspainedatthemistake,forIknewhowkeenlyHolmeswouldfeelanyslipofthekind.Itwashisspecialtytobeaccurateastofact,buthisrecentillnesshadshakenhim,andthisonelittleincidentwasenoughtoshowmethathewasstillfarfrombeinghimself.Hewasobviouslyembarrassedforaninstant,whiletheinspectorraisedhiseyebrows,andAlecCunninghamburstintoalaugh.Theoldgentlemancorrectedthemistake,however,andhandedthepaperbacktoHolmes.
