           Holmesleanedbackinthecarriage,andtheconversationceased.Afewminuteslaterourdriverpulledupataneatlittlered-brickvillawithoverhangingeaveswhichstoodbytheroad.Somedistanceoff,acrossapaddock,layalonggray-tiledoutbuilding.Ineveryotherdirectionthelowcurvesofthemoor,bronze-colouredfromthefadingferns,stretchedawaytothesky-line,brokenonlybythesteeplesofTavistock,andbyaclusterofhousesawaytothewestwardwhichmarkedtheMapletonstables.
