Also,certainchangesinthecurriculumofstudiescameabout,fortherewereengagednewteacherswhoheldnewviewsandopinions,andconfusedtheirhearerswithamultitudeofnewtermsandphrases,anddisplayedintheirexpositionofthingsbothlogicalsequenceandazestformoderndiscoveryandmuchwarmthofindividualbias.Yettheirinstruction,alas!containednoLIFE—inthemouthsofthoseteachersadeadlanguagesavouredmerelyofcarrion.Thuseverythingconnectedwiththeschoolunderwentaradicalalteration,andrespectforauthorityandtheauthoritieswaned,andtutorsandusherscametobedubbed“OldThedor,”“Crusty,”andthelike.Andsundryotherthingsbegantotakeplace—thingswhichnecessitatedmanyapenaltyandexpulsion;until,withinacoupleofyears,noonewhohadknowntheschoolinformerdayswouldnowhaverecognisedit.
