           Thetidecouldnothavecarriedthemastsfartoseaward,andtherehadbeennowind.Itmeantmerelymoreworktofindthemandtowthemback.Andbesides,itwasalesson.Iknewwhattoexpect.Hemighthavewaitedanddestroyedourworkmoreeffectuallywhenwehadmoreaccomplished.

           "Herehecomesnow,"shewhispered.

           Iglancedup.Hewasstrollingleisurelyalongthepoopontheportside.

           "Takenonoticeofhim,"Iwhispered."He’scomingtoseehowwetakeit.Don’tlethimknowthatweknow.Wecandenyhimthatsatisfaction.Takeoffyourshoesthat’srightandcarrytheminyourhand."

           Andthenweplayedhide-and-seekwiththeblindman.Ashecameuptheportsideweslippedpastonthestarboard;andfromthepoopwewatchedhimturnandstartaftonourtrack.
