           Itstrikesmeoccasionally,justasascientifichypothesis—thatperhapsitisthepaper! 

           IhavewatchedJohnwhenhedidnotknowIwaslooking,andcomeintotheroomsuddenlyonthemostinnocentexcuses,andI’vecaughthimseveraltimesLOOKINGATTHEPAPER! AndJennietoo.IcaughtJenniewithherhandonitonce. 

           Shedidn’tknowIwasintheroom,andwhenIaskedherinaquiet,averyquietvoice,withthemostrestrainedmannerpossible,whatshewasdoingwiththepaper—sheturnedaroundasifshehadbeencaughtstealing,andlookedquiteangry—askedmewhyIshouldfrightenherso! 

           Thenshesaidthatthepaperstainedeverythingittouched,thatshehadfoundyellowsmoochesonallmyclothesandJohn’s,andshewishedwewouldbemorecareful! 

           Didnotthatsoundinnocent? ButIknowshewasstudyingthatpattern,andIamdeterminedthatnobodyshallfinditoutbutmyself!
