Theyreachedthecastlestepsatlastandasthegreatoakenfrontdoorsswungopenintothevastflaggedentrancehall,aburstoftalkandlaughterandoftinklingplatesandglassesgreetedthemthroughthedoorsstandingopenintotheGreatHall.HarrywonderedwhetherhecouldsliphisInvisibilityCloakbackon,therebygaininghisseatatthelongGryffindortable(which,inconveniently,wasthefarthestfromtheentrancehall)withoutbeingnoticed.
AsthoughhehadreadHarry’smind,however,Snapesaid,"Nocloak.Youcanwalkinsothateveryoneseesyou,whichiswhatyouwanted,I’msure."
Harryturnedonthespotandmarchedstraightthroughtheopendoors:anythingtogetawayfromSnape.TheGreatHallwithitsfourlongHousetablesanditsstafftablesetatthetopoftheroomwasdecoratedasusualwithfloatingcandlesthatmadetheplatesbelowglitterandglow.ItwasallashimmeringblurtoHarry,however,whowalkedsofastthathewaspassingtheHufflepufftablebeforepeoplereallystartedtostare,andbythetimetheywerestandinguptogetagoodlookathim,hehadspottedRonandHermione,spedalongthebenchestowardthem,andforcedhiswayinbetweenthem.
"Where’veyou—blimey,what’veyoudonetoyourface?"saidRon,gogglingathimalongwitheveryoneelseinthevicinity.
"Why,what’swrongwithit?"saidHarry,grabbingaspoonandsquintingathisdistortedreflection.
"You’recoveredinblood!"saidHermione."Comehere—"
