           Onceuponatimetherewasadearlittlegirlwhowaslovedbyeveryonewholookedather,butmostofallbyhergrandmother,andtherewasnothingthatshewouldnothavegiventothechild. Onceshegaveheralittlecapofredvelvet,whichsuitedhersowellthatshewouldneverwearanythingelse;soshewasalwayscalled"LittleRedRidingHood" 

           Onedayhermothersaidtoher,"Come,LittleRedRidingHood,hereisapieceofcakeandabottleofwine;takethemtoyourgrandmother,sheisillandweak,andtheywilldohergood. Setoutbeforeitgetshot,andwhenyouaregoing,walknicelyandquietlyanddonotrunoffthepath,oryoumayfallandbreakthebottle,andthenyourgrandmotherwillgetnothing; andwhenyougointoherroom,don’tforgettosay,‘Good-morning,’anddon’tpeepintoeverycornerbeforeyoudoit." 

           "Iwilltakegreatcare,"saidLittleRedRidingHoodtohermother,andgaveherhandonit. 

           Thegrandmotherlivedoutinthewood,halfaleaguefromthevillage,andjustasLittleRedRidingHoodenteredthewood,awolfmether.LittleRedRidingHooddidnotknowwhatawickedcreaturehewas,andwasnotatallafraidofhim. 

           "Good-day,LittleRedRidingHood,"saidhe. 

           "Thankyoukindly,wolf." 

           "Whitherawaysoearly,LittleRedRidingHood?" 

           "Tomygrandmother’s." 

           "Whathaveyougotinyourapron?" 

           "Cakeandwine;yesterdaywasbaking-day,sopoorsickgrandmotheristohavesomethinggood,tomakeherstronger."
