           PresidentBarbicanehad,withoutlossoftime,nominatedaworkingcommitteeoftheGunClub.Thedutyofthiscommitteewastoresolvethethreegrandquestionsofthecannon,theprojectile,andthepowder.Itwascomposedoffourmembersofgreattechnicalknowledge,Barbicane(withacastingvoteincaseofequality),GeneralMorgan,MajorElphinstone,andJ.T.Maston,towhomwereconfidedthefunctionsofsecretary.Onthe8thofOctoberthecommitteemetatthehouseofPresidentBarbicane,3RepublicanStreet.Themeetingwasopenedbythepresidenthimself.
