           "Captain?"saidI.

           Hedidnotanswer.Ilefthimandmountedtheplatform.ConseilandtheCanadianwerealreadythere.

           "Wheredidthatsoundcomefrom?"Iasked.

           "Itwasagunshot,"repliedNedLand.

           IlookedinthedirectionofthevesselIhadalreadyseen.ItwasnearingtheNautilus,andwecouldseethatitwasputtingonsteam.Itwaswithinsixmilesofus.
